Beth Stars in World Premiere of When Playwrights Kill

Beth joins the world premiere cast of When Playwrights Kill, Matthew Lombardo’s new comedy, for a strictly limited run from April 3 to 18 2026!

Beth will join the world premiere of When Playwrights Kill, Matthew Lombardo’s new comedy, at Boston’s Huntington Theatre from April 3 to 18.

Directed by Noah Himmelstein, the production has assembled a cast of stage favorites to star in the new work, including Tony winners Beth Leavel, Matt Doyle and Marissa Janet Winokur, as well as Broadway veterans Kevin Chamberlin, Adam Heller, and Tomás Matos. Further casting, by Nick Peciaro, is to be announced.

The fast-paced, behind-the-scenes comedy centers on Jack Hawkins (Doyle), an aspiring playwright whose Broadway dreams are on the verge of being dashed by Brooke Remington (Leavel), a notoriously difficult diva who derails his play’s out-of-town try-out in Boston. Desperate to avoid bringing the show to Broadway with Brooke in the lead, Jack decides that saving his play might just involve murdering its leading lady.

Chamberlin plays seasoned director Oliver Kendall Walker, who is frantically trying to keep the playwright and actress from killing each other. Literally. Heller portrays Freddie Carlton, a down-on-his-luck producer determined to resurrect his career at any cost. Winokur appears as Liz Jennings, the unruffled production stage manager trying valiantly to impose order on the chaos, while Matos plays Tobias Deschanel, a fabulous felon who inexplicably lands the job as the diva’s prompter.

The work was previously set to premiere with Connecticut's The Bushnell in 2022, a run that was later canceled in favor of further development of the work. An industry presentation was held in NYC last year with much of the same cast set to star in the Boston bow.
